Breaking Health News

The answer is yes, they are discriminated against.  If you are 66 years old, you are on Medica and pay only $12.00 for Allegra.  If you are 61 and on Health Partners, you pay $36.00 for genetic Allegra, a cheaper brand name that doesn’t work.  Both are former employees of the school district. Whose keeping the money? The first patient pays almost $300.00 for health insurance, the second patient pays almost $700.00 for health insurance.  Same former employer, group policies, same levels of care. Sucks, right?

Hyperthryroidism is when the thryroid overly active and produces too much of its hormones.  It affects women five to ten times more than men, it is most common in people under age 40. These people may have symptoms such as sweating, feeling hot, rapid heartbeats, weight loss, and even eye problems.

There are several types:

Graves Disease-This is excessive hormones that trigger an autioimmune disorder attacking the body, when the thyroid hormones spill over.

Toxic Adenomas-These are nodules, lumps, growths that develop in the thryoid gland.  If you have several goits it may indicate this.

Subacute Thyroiditis-Painful thyroid causes excessive hormones and inflamation

Pituitary Gland Malfunctions or Cancerous Growths-These are rare but can occur.

Silent Thyroiditis-This causes a mild problem and can results in damage.

Pospartum Thyrroiditis-This can occur after surgery and delivery of a baby.

Ingestion of Excess Thyroid Hormones-This can result in hyperthyroidism.

If you have hypothyroidism it is because there is an underproduction of thryoid hormones.  The body’s energy productio requires certain amounts of thyroid hormones that give you energy.  When you do not have enough you lack energy, feel weak and tired.

Too little hromones often lead to hypothryroidism. You may feel unpleasant, uncomfortable or out of sorts. You can get harmless goiters, enlarged lumps in your neck.  Sometimes they are cancerous.  This is abnormal production of your thryoid.  The throttle in your body is not working as well as it should.  You may feel depressed, fatigued, gain weight, and are tired.

{April 10, 2010}   Sea Iodine

Sea Iodine are pills that you can buy from Life Extension and other pharmacies. It uses a special blend of marine algae without the dangers of salt intake. The source for Life Extension is from Iceland, Nova Scotia, Italy and Norway.

Iodine is essential for life.

It’s important in that it goes into the blood and is released in the hormones.

It is found in sea vegetables and plants and Asian people often have a diet rich in it with lower cancer rates.

Athletes and people who do a lot of physical exerdcise often perspirate and deplete themselves of it.

Vegans are often very low in it.

It is important in the production of T3, T4. Be sure to have your thyroid tests done.

They sell Sea Iodine and Vitamin D3 with Sea Iodine, if you are a member. Call 1-800-544-4440 to become a member. Be sure to be tested first. SMDC doesn’t do iodine testing, so you may need to search around or unless you want to do a self-test.  The directions are online.

{March 22, 2010}   What is This?

I saw a poster at the Duluth Grill,  and it was about HOTDISH Militia c/o WHC 32 E. lst Street, Duluth, MN 55802.  Isn’t that the building for women that the YWCA owns?  I wouldn’t of noticed the pot luck at Peace Church which read Lutheran Ladies hotdish, etc. but it talked about young women.  I pulled off a tab, googled it, and it is about abortion, gays, lesbians, etc. Chances are that the Duluth Grill doesn’t know what kind of poster they hung up or how hot of a topic this is in our community.

The Lutherans are not gun hoe about abortions and for sure Lutheran Ladies are not.  Who ever thought that one up? We have friends who are anti-abortion.  This is a hot topic with this doctor and his wife.  I don’t understand why the Peace Church is sponsoring it. Maybe Building for Women, non-profit members or owners are part of the group.

It’s pretty unreal that when you go to Urgent Care at SMDC on the weekend  you see a nurse/physicans assistant or before that category, no longer a physican. They can only give some shots that would last 3-4 hours.  If you go to Emergency you wait 4-6 hours, no matter how much pain you have.  The only way to get around it is to go through the drive in garage.  You can get help right away as that is considered a real emergency.
